Introducing Ott Lepland, Tallinn City Theatre and WAF choir

The Estonian Cultural Days is happy to present our first three performers and is looking forward to celebrate Estonian culture with all of our peers and friends in New York City. Full schedule, other performers will become available in February 2017.

Ott Lepland, Estonian singer and songwriter is coming to New York City! His professional singing career began after the victory of Estonian Idol 2009, soon after he represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, in Baku. Song "Kuula", originally performed in Estonian, gained high popularity in many European countries, but peaked especially high in Estonia, and Belgium. The song was also released in Spanish ("Escucha"), English ("Hear me") and Russian ("Слушай"). His most recent fifth studio album is called "Maailma mu ees" (World in Front of Me).

Tallinna Linnateater (performance only available in Estonian)

Tallinn City Theater will be presenting a theater performance "Kes kardab Virginia Woolfi?" performed by one of Estonia's most respected actors and actresses. Performance is available only in Estonian, schedule revealed in February.

Tallinna Linnateater toob meieni etenduse "Kes kardab Virginia Woolfi?" osades Linnateatri kolleegipreemia parim meesosatäitja Andrus Vaarik, Epp Eespäev, Argo Aadli ja Kristiina-Hortensia Port.

Vahel harva tuleb elus ette üks öö, mida sa enam kunagi ei unusta. Öö, mil pinna all hiilinud deemonid pääsevad valla ja võtavad juhtimise üle, nii et äkki leiad end mängimas ohtlikku mängu, mida sa ise enam ei kontrolli. Öö, mil kõik saab piinlikult avalikuks ja sinust purskub ühekor...raga välja kogu aastate jooksul allasurutud valu. Ja ometi juhib seda kõike armastus – suur, kõikehaarav, lõppematu armastus.

Edward Albee on 20. sajandi näitekirjanduse meisterlikumaid psühholooge, aga ka humanist, kes usub veendunult vabadusse ja inimväärikusse. Tema näitemängu tõi lavale mainekas bulgaaria lavastaja Mladen Kiselov (1943-2012), kes elas oma viimased aastad Eestis. Kiselov lõpetas 1968. aastal Moskvas Anatoli Efrose õpilasena GITISe, tegutses alguses lavastajana Bulgaarias ja alates 1980ndatest töötas peamiselt USAs. „Kes kardab Virginia Woolfi?“ oli tema esimene lavastus Eestis.

Etendus kestab 3 tundi 30 minutit, kolmes vaatuses ja etendub unikaalses New Yorgi Eesti Maja keskkonnas. Piletid saadaval eelmüügist veebruaris.

WAF Choir

WAF (We Are Family) choir was created in 2005 and gained mainstream attention after the victory of an Estonian TV show "Laululahing" where choirs from all around Estonia competed against each other in various categories. Since then WAF choir has organized numerous concerts, the most famous concert series is called "White Gospel", a holiday themed concert series performing entertaining popular holiday melodies often accompanied by famous Estonian singers like Ott Lepland, Kristjan Kasearu, Margit Viirma, Silver Laas and many others.

As part of the Estonian Cultural Days in New York, WAF choir is going to host two concerts at the Scandinavia House and Estonian Church on Lexington Ave. More information coming soon.
