The presentation will examine the background of this project, the difficulties of delivering it, and the value it should have for Estonians-Americans, academics, and many others interested in Baltic peoples.

Is the architect Louis Kahn (1901-1974) not only in dialogue with a history of the finest works of architecture, but also with the medieval architecture of his the birthplace, the island of Saaremaa? Art historian Heie Treier will introduce her latest research which is based on the above assumption.  She will make use of the work of the architectural photographer Arne Maasik, who has spent a decade photographing Kahn’s buildings in the United States, Bangladesh, and India, in comparison to Saaremaa’s medieval architecture.
